From The Herald in Rock Hill SC (26 Jul 2014), concerning the potentially devastating Haile Gold Mine near Kershaw SC: The only major environmental group to openly challenge the mine is the Southern Environmental Law Center . . . . If this is true--and is it?--why hasnt the Sierra Club of South Carolina [and Henrys Knob Group in Rock Hill] come out strongly in opposition to these mis-guided and unacceptable plans by a Canadian company to turn Lancaster County into a wasteland similar to mountaintop removal sites in Appalachia? Opposition to this project should be a top priority for the state office and EVERY Sierra group in the state. Non-Sierrans should also be strongly opposed to this boondoggle that will provide mostly short-term employment. The folks in Kershaw need jobs, but are they willing to sell out their futures and the environment? Its equivalent to selling ones soul.
