MIMIKO, the sly cat finally tamed and caged! Rahman Olusegun - TopicsExpress

MIMIKO, the sly cat finally tamed and caged! Rahman Olusegun MIMIKO, the incumbent governor of Ondo state, is a bloke with an unquestionably high capacity for equivocation and chicanery. As Commissioner of Health under the late Governor Adefarati, he succeeded in causing mass disaffection in the then ruling Alliance for Democracy (AD). Mimiko decamped to PDP when it became apparent that he could not clinch the Partys governorship ticket at the expense of the incumbent. The contrived insurrection was of such magnitude that the Party lost in the 2003 elections; Mimiko was made the Secretary to the State Government and later Minister of Environment under President Olusegun Obasanjo. As a PDP stalwart, he still believed (as he did earlier) that the PDP governor, Late Dr Olusegun Agagu, should not go for a second term. President Olusegun Obasanjo did not agree with him and this landed him in Labour Party. As expected, the do or die electoral war of OBJ saw his electoral victory snatched away. He cried like a baby for his spilled milk to BAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu), a man known for legendary stand against Obasanjos infernal impunity! Mimikos promise was a move to Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as soon as his mandate was restored! After becoming governor,Rahman Mimiko reneged and became antagonistic to anything with the name of BAT on it. He got away with it because BAT possessed no coercive power to make him respect agreement. Then, the end of his first term drew near and he needed to renew his mandate. It damned on him that he had not done enough to justify the peoples massive support. PDPs candidate, Olusola Oke, is a veteran in Ondo politics; his candidature was a massive threat to Mimikos continued stay in office! So also was the threat posed by Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, the ACN flag bearer. Like a confused manipulator, he ran to the incumbent President to save his ass. As expected, he received conditional presidential assistance that ensured a smooth sail through the election. After being sworn in, he sought to extend his labouring empire across the South West; the PDP machinery was bidding its time before closing in on him. Of course when the Devil gives you condition for an assistance, you must pay up; the PDP finally came knocking. MIMIKO was pinned to the floor and caged! The Prelude to a shameful Volte face! “I don’t react to rumours. If I am going to leave the Labour Party I will declare it openly,” adding, the report was a mere rumour, stressing that he still remains a strong member of the Labour party. “All the reports you hear or read are mere rumours and I cannot react to rumours. As you can see, I am here today to attend the Labour party NEC meeting. I will also be in Akure on October 4 when we will host the 3rd National convention of our party.” - Gov. Olusegun Mimiko, formerly of LP (Vanguard, September 10, 2014) Then the declaration ON 2ND OCTOBER, 2014! Ondo State Governor Mimiko Forced Into PDP Inside Aso Rock Villa Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) finally forced janus-faced Governor of Ondo State; Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to dump the Labour Party (LP) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2015 general election. Presidency sources told Saharareporters that Dr. Mimiko had been playing games with the party refusing to decamp several times after promising to do. At a well attended event held at the State House, in Abuja, Mimiko read a prepapred speech saying he was returning to the PDP alongside members of the House of Assembly, Federal lawmakers from the state and members of the State Executive Council and some LP state executive members. He declared that his decision to return formally follows repeated consultation with major stakeholders of both the LP and PDP in his state.“ It is in the light of the foregoing that I, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, following extensive consultations across the land, today formally announce the decision of members of National Assembly from the LP in Ondo State, members of the LP in the Ondo State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council and indeed all those who share our aspirations, to join the PDP. “This decision arose after a period of consultation with major stakeholders in Ondo State, which include the aforementioned as well as traditional and religious leaders, market men and women, artisans, trade unions and community as well as party leaders”. The Governor claimed that his earlier plans to join the PDP was tormenting but was later hinged on the overall interest of the people. “I must confess that it surely was tempting and perhaps more fulfilling to continue as a national leader in our smaller, calmer and quite promising ocean represented by the Labour Party. “But this decision to return to the PDP, we have taken in the overall interest of our people and our nation, and its democracy which for those who are perceptive enough to notice, is now mortally endangered by a constellation of forces which must be confronted. With his defection, Mimiko is expected to lead the presidential campaign for the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan in the South West region. The Vice President, Namadi Sabo, Senate President, David Mark, Senator Bode Olajumoke and other PDP bigwigs were present at the official declaration of the governor. R F
