From The Respect The Elders Dept.: Two (more) great men of American music were born his week. The hi-de-ho man, CAB CALLOWAY was born on Christmas day in 1907. A Jazz singer, known for his scat style, a bandleader, whose band included Dizzy Gillespie and Ben Webster at different times, to a long run at the Cotton Club in Harlem, and many movie appearances, including in the Blues Brothers, he was an American icon. He left us in 1994. R.I.P. December 27 is the birthday of SCOTTY MOORE. Best known as the guitarist on the Memphis and early Hollywood Elvis Presley records, he also had a long career as a recording engineer and session guitarist. He was #44 in the Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Guitarists list. In 2000 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Thankfully he is still with us. Happy Birthday Mr. Calloway and Mr. Moore. (Cab: The Ritz, NYC c.1983, Scotty, Ponderosa Stomp, New Orleans, c. 2004.)
