From The Vault: Todays clip goes way back to November 28th, 2004! Heres the lads performing Despair, from their first album Undertow, at their very first Local & Loud competition, in Oshawa. They didnt win (or even place) cause hey, whos gonna take a bunch of 13-14 year olds seriously, right? Two interesting side notes: 1) Taylor STILL wears the t-shirt seen in this clip today! He can be seen wearing it in more recent concert clips if you notice these sort of details. 2) The band has NEVER won a Local & Loud competition. They headlined last years competition in Barrie & the local radio station (one of the sponsers) stated in their on air radio ads that they were previous winners of a L&L competition. Despite never having won one they went on to record 3 more albums: The Rain -independantly, Small Town Dead - with major label RoadRunner, and Four - crowd sourceing funds from their fans!. As they hinted yesterday they are workinfg on a 5th album. So for all you up & coming musicians take note: dont let L&L competions be your standard of success, just use them to A) get exposure & B) Think of them as another practice session, this time in front of a crowd. Most practice sessions are done in a confined space and you are honing your skills at playing your musical creations. At a L&L you now have the opportunity to perform them with the enthusiasm you feel for them.
