From: UNIVERSITY OF HYDERABAD TEACHERS ASSOCIATION Date: Jan 14, 2015 8:56:46 PM Subject: UHTA letter to VC 14 January 2015 To: UNIVERSITY OF HYDERABAD TEACHERS ASSOCIATION Dear colleague, Please find below the letter from UHTA to the Vice Chancellor dated 14 January 2015. UHTA 14 January, 2015 To The Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad. Dear Prof. Ramaswamy, University of Hyderabad Teachers Association (UHTA) is concerned about the utter chaos and indecisiveness of the University administration for the past few months. We would like to raise the following issues for your immediate attention: 1. Academic Calendar, Entrance Exam: The Academic calendar was neither discussed in the Academic Council nor in the Court meeting adequately as both the meetings were conducted in haste in November 2014. As a result of improper planning, the academic schedule as well as vacation for the students and faculty is thrown into disarray. Similarly, the advancement of the entrance examinations schedule that you have imposed on the university is another instance of the total disregard for the statutory bodies when the majority of the faculty, Heads, and Deans have consistently opposed it. 2. Non-implementation of Reports: We have brought to your notice (UHTA letter dated 21st November, 2014) and the Executive Council (EC) held on 24th November about the non-implementation of committee reports and decisions of statutory bodies. i. Institute of Life Sciences (ILS): After elaborate discussion in three Academic Councils and two committee reports, we would like to know whether the University has served a formal notice on the ILS. If so, would you please provide us a copy of it? ii. Creation of the School of Earth Sciences: It was decided in the 68thAC meeting that a uniform policy will be followed with respect to the creation of schools and no new school will be created till such a policy is in place. However, the manner in which the School of Earth Sciences was announced in December, 2014, during vacation, raises questions about the procedures followed. iii. Justice Ramaswamy Committee Report on the death of Madari Venkatesh: There was an assurance in the recent Academic Council meeting that it will be put up in the university website but this has not happened so far. 3. Faculty Selection committees– Even after the submission of your resignation letter to the President of India on 1st November, 2014, faculty selections have taken place in violation of the conventions of a university. During the last six months of his/her tenure, a VC is not supposed to take any policy decision including faculty selections. We demand an explanation on all these issues from you. We are greatly concerned that the adminstration in general has collapsed leading to chaos in the day-to-day functioning of university affecting all sections of the university community. K Laxminarayana Deepa Sreenivas President UHTA General Secretary, UHTA
