From Your Pastor’s Heart For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 As Donna and I are away for a few days, I want to share with you a story I read recently that touched and tickled my heart. I am sure that Stacey Pointer and her crew in Preschool Church as well as those who help in Children’s Church could share similar stories as this one. I was testing the children in my Sunday school class to see if they understood the concept of getting to Heaven. I asked them, “If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale, and gave all my money to the church, would that get me into Heaven?” “NO!” the children answered. “If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the yard, and kept everything neat and tidy, would that get me into Heaven?” Again, the answer was, “NO!” “Well, then, if I was kind to animals, and gave candy to all the children, and loved my husband, would that get me into Heaven?” I asked them again. Again, they all answered, “NO!” I was just bursting with pride for them! “Well,” I continued, “then how can I get into Heaven?” A five-year-old boy shouted out, “YOU GOTTA BE DEAD!” Well, the little guy certainly pointed out the obvious. What happens after the qualifying act of dying depends on how you have responded to God’s invitation in this life. As the most famous of all Bible verses quoted above states, “Whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” What you do with that knowledge and how you respond to the Lord Jesus Christ makes all the difference. For, you not only “gotta be dead” to get to heaven, you also “gotta be saved by Jesus” to get there. I pray He is your Savior. Love in Christ, Pastor Jeff
