From a FB Friend: This is a field report from a good travelling friend and learned correspondent on the ground in Texas: You have probably read in recent days that the World Community Organizer has protested, somewhat meekly, to the Chinese, about one of their fighter planes playing cat and mouse with an American surveillance aircraft in international airspace. All he can do is protest, meekly, because he has already fired anyone who would be more forceful. Were members of an unusual book club, unusual in that about 25% of the members are male. Since the person who volunteers as a discussion leader gets to pick the book, male participation ensures that all the books arent ladies books. The last meeting focused on The Admirals, a biography of the four five star admirals of World War II, and the discussion included the question of where we find such men. There was a guest there, a retired Vice Admiral. He told a story of a time when he was Commander of Carrier Battle Group One. He had a rule that no foreign submarine would be permitted within 250 miles of his Battle Group while in the Western Pacific. A submarine was detected sailing out of the Gulf of Bohai one day, and he sent a Tracker (an electronic warfare plane) to harass it, by dropping sonobuoys. The Chinese sent two fighter jets in response. Our guest launched two F-16s and two F-18s, and told them, by radio, in the clear, Missiles hot, you are cleared to shoot, normal rules of engagement. The Chinese turned around and were home in time for dim sum. Our guest got his third star, at his retirement parade, but not the next command for which he was scheduled (Commander, United States Seventh Fleet). This is but another example of the World Community Organizers priorities: emboldening those who would do us harm, and hobbling those who would protect us.
