From a follower- I thought this post on mamamia summed it up beautifully: I picked up a thermomix second hand about three years ago. I am not in the coven. I am not a fanatic and I couldnt care less if there is a new model or not. It is a really useful appliance but if someone asks me if they should get one I always say that it is a really good food processor if you can afford it but it wont change your life. That said, I think this company has questionable morals and I think Mamamia has missed the point on all this. To sell an old model right up to the day before bringing out a new model AT THE SAME PRICE, without telling customers that there is a new model coming out and reassuring people that there isnt a new one coming out when asked is just nuts. No other company does this. They tell you a new model is coming, they discount the old models and the sell the new model at a higher price point. Part of the brainwashing is the hard sell you get with the consultant. Its not like buying from Target, it is more like buying a car- there are promises of after sales services like cook books, demonstrations on how to use it, cooking lessons etc. All these promises are now only available to customers with the old model up to Christmas. That is not what was promised and for such an expensive piece of machinery you do expect more, I guess. Rather than have a plan for the launch including managing the obvious outrage that was going to ensue, the company decided to hide behind the lame excuse we didn t know until the day it was announced so just be grateful for the model you have which is so obviously not true it is insulting. They have no idea about how consumer law operates in Australia, change management or customer relations. For a company that so heavily relies on word of mouth this is just completely stupid on their part. The company doesnt deserve to have such loyal customers.
