From a friend in Hawaii working on the current moratorium: Please share with everybody near and far around the world ASAP to save Mother Earth! Send out email blasts subject GMO crop moratorium. Thank you! I feel safer swimming in Makena instead of Kihei after Hurricane Ana washed Monsanto’s dangerous chemicals into the ocean. Atrazine, chlorpyrifos, permethrin, glyphosate, and 2,4-D are among 80 endocrine-disrupting chemicals sprayed here excessively in outdoor GMO experiments and production. These blow into homes in dust, causing serious birth defects like spina bifida (open spine) and gastroschisis (intestines on outside of body). Many chemicals now contaminate our tap water. Monsanto and Mycogen don’t grow edible food. The citizens’ initiative applies only to these farmers that grow GMO plants. These easily contaminate similar plants downwind by horizontal gene transfer, thereby contaminating organic crops. GMO BT sweet corn is regulated as an insecticide; it eats holes in the stomachs of bugs and humans that eat it. Monsanto requires a contract to grow it. Would you risk unknowingly buying this toxic sweet corn at a farmers market? Most GMO crops are Roundup resistant and heavily sprayed. Many scientific studies show that eating Roundup-tainted or BT crops kills gut bacteria, weakens the immune system, and causes inflammation. These cause gastrointestinal disorders, liver and kidney toxicity, food allergies, autoimmune diseases, infections, arthritis, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, autism, MS, infertility, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and various cancers. Now we have nightmares of BT-resistant bugs, Roundup-resistant weeds, and 2,4-D resistant crops. Do Maui County residents really want to be poisoned while supplying the world seeds that cause malnutrition, disease, environmental destruction, and death?
