From a member: We lost our son to suicide in November. He was with the 40th Signal Battalion and was deployed 4 times before being medically retired as a wounded warrior. His best friend in the Army suffered the same fate less than a year before my son. Now I have learned that yet another soldier died by his own hand last night. I have read some recent posts on this page from men and women who continue to suffer and are struggling to hold on. Please know this: Your families love you. The pain they are left with cannot be expressed in mere words, when a decision is reached to end one’s personal struggles in a tragic way. Please, for their sake and your own, seek help. It’s not going to be easy, but you can do it. Families: Discernment is paramount. Just as with my son, he would not admit he was struggling. He was “Army” strong. ANY erratic behavior whatsoever should not be taken lightly. Sometimes the signs are subtle. Be aware at all times and do not be afraid to raise the subject with them if you suspect there may be an issue. We all are aware that depending on the government to do anything is seldom the best recourse. It’s up to us. Most people reading this are already self-educated and continue to remain aware. For those who are not: Educate yourself, today. Your soldier needs you. My heart continues to bleed daily. Those of us left behind will never be the same. Our lives have been altered forever. The emptiness cannot be accurately expressed.
