From ancient times, Cretans consume large quantities of fruit. This is due to the wide variety of fruits produced on the island, mainly from each family for personal use. From tropical Arvi bananas, avocados of Chania, figs and dates produced in the fertile valleys of the south, to the citrus of Maleme. From watermelons and melons in Mesara to sweet grapes of Archanes. From cherries, apples, peaches and pears of the Lassithi Plateau, to the chestnuts, quinces, plums and lotus from the Omalos Plateau roots: Cretans enjoy a variety of distinct flavors. The coexistence of cold, hot and subtropical zones on the island favor the existence of so many different cultivations from side to side. Below you can see some cretan fruit examples . 1) figs 2)prickly pear 3)mandarin 4)melon/watermelon 5)grapefruit 6)pomegranate
