From now through July 31, 35 Seconds for Haiti will collect donations for swim lessons for the Haitian community in Norwich, CT, in honor of Brandon Jozile. Brandon, 16, drowned Thursday, July 4, at Hopeville Pond Park in Griswold. He did not know how to swim. Anecdotal evidence suggests this inability to swim is proving fatal among many Haitians nationwide. A combination of fear and cultural tradition in which swim lessons are not expected in Haiti have helped fuel the crisis. 35 Seconds wants to help break this cycle of fatalities. Brandon is the son of Estime Jozile, pastor of the First Haitian Baptist Church of Norwich who helped found 35 Seconds, a mission of the church to Haiti. Peniel Church of Norwich is donating $250 to help start the collection. After the money is collected, 35 Seconds will determine the qualified recipients based on a first-come, first-serve basis and at its discretion. To donate, make a one-time contribution and note "Brandon Jozile" in the comments section of the on-line form. Jean Amos Lys Caleb Roseme Milza Jozile Cindy Mezidor
