From one time BMA principal Ham Canosa come these words of provoking thought worth a moment or two of reflection during this years alumni weekend. By Hamlet Canosa SABBATH REFLECTION: CALLED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE ... I have sometimes heard others lament their very own existence; a consequence of perceiving/experiencing utter futility or possessing feelings of extraordinary inadequacy. Such people feel lost in the seas of social strata - sometimes so much so that they carry deep and painful inner hurt for being unrecognized in any way or at any level. Their hurt becomes my hurt. When I encounter such people, I often try to remind them of their specialness - their uniqueness - and the creative craftsmanship of a Heavenly Father who brought them into the world for a purpose. I express thanks to them for how they have touched my life for the good and how they have undoubtedly touched the lives of so many others. Many such people I liken to the light that our master spoke of in Matthew 5:13-16. “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under peoples feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Nelson Mandela shared this perspective, What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead. Today, let us not only be difference-makers faithful to our calling, but also let us seek to lift up another who needs encouragement, a kind word, or a helping hand. You will make for such a person a much brighter and happier Sabbath. God bless!
