From our Safety Director, Frank Goodwin: Safety, Comfort, and Style . . . . Do go together. Are you old enough to remember when safety glasses were heavy, ugly, and uncomfortable? If you wore safety glasses you had perma-dents on the bridge of your nose and you looked like a nerd wearing coke bottle lenses. Do you remember steel toe safety shoes? Heavy and ugly too. Today, thanks to new technologies we have lightweight, stylish safety glasses that people actually like to wear. Safety shoes come in many designer styles and colors. They are lightweight and even sometimes stylish. There is no reason to not wear the right eye protection and shoes for your job. Those who refuse to wear their safety equipment are usually those who don’t deserve the job they have. Safety is important to the workers and the workers’ families and the employer. It is your personal responsibility to be safe. The company has rules they must go by, employees have rules to follow. Why then do we not follow the rules? If you get hurt on the job you expect the company to take care of you, your medical bills, and income. You and I mean anyone who is hurt on the job will readily call a1-800-SUE-THEM toll free number if you aren’t compensated like you think you should be. Remember this, IT IS YOUR PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY to follow the rules, wear the equipment, and watch out for your safety and the safety of your co-workers. I believe you should not be compensated beyond basic medical bills if you do not follow the rules. This is my opinion, what’s yours?
