From our colleagues at the Bureau of Meteorology: bom.gov.au/products/IDS65503.shtml SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for DAMAGING WINDS For people in the Adelaide Metropolitan, Mount Lofty Ranges, Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, Flinders, Mid North and parts of the North East Pastoral districts. Issued at 11:50 am Monday, 3 February 2014. A strong high pressure system is moving eastwards south of the State and extending a firm ridge across South Australia. South to southeasterly winds will increase across the State later today. Strong to gale force winds, averaging 55-70 km/h, with gusts in excess of 90 km/h, are forecast to develop in the south of the warning area this afternoon, particularly over the higher ground and western slopes of the Mount Lofty Ranges. These winds will gradually extend northwards during the evening, reaching the Flinders Ranges overnight. Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Aldinga, Maitland and Kingscote this afternoon and evening, then Clare, Jamestown, Hawker and Leigh Creek this evening and overnight. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; * Secure or put away loose items around your property. * Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe. The next warning is due to be issued by 2:50 pm. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 215. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
