From our election series of videos, each night this week we will be giving you some discussion questions about the videos. Please tell us what you think. Tonight is Housing: 1. What do you think it would be like to be homeless? 2. Major Campbell Roberts says, ‘New Zealand’s housing problems are serious for some people and their families. As a country, a number of things are going wrong: - We’re not building enough affordable houses in the right places. - In some areas housing is unaffordable for the people who need it. - Some houses are in poor condition and affect the health and wellbeing of the people who live in them.’ Which of these housing problems do you see in your community/city? 3. Which political parties acknowledge housing as a significant issue for our nation? 4. The Salvation Army is advocating for four bold new housing programmes as a way of addressing the housing crisis and creating a fairer and healthier New Zealand: - An extensive house building programme. - Home ownership assistance programmes. - Insulation for rental housing. - 500 additional social housing units each year. How well do you think the housing policies of the various political parties align with what The Salvation Army is advocating for?
