From our friends Bali Sharks On Saturday, Nov. 1st, two Cat Sharks were netted by fishermen during the afternoon high tide surge off Sanurs Metasari Beach. The Fishermen notified Bali Sharks conservation office in an effort to save the sharks as an alternative to killing them. The collective effort was a success and the sharks are presently rehabilitating in the Bali Shark nursery with only a few minor scrapes and scratches. The Brown Cat Sharks mark a Marine Conservation milestone, 100th & 101st, sharks that have been rescued under the program. The 100th shark is an 0.82 male and has been nicknamed Joko, honoring Indonesias newly elected president, whom cited the importance of maintaining the countrys marine resources in a recent speech. The other Cat Shark rescued is a 0.77 pregnant female, oviparous, and will be placed into a specialty pen allowing her to successfully deposit eggs. Eggs are then transferred to the Gili Eco Trusts reef restoration program in Gili Trawangan. To date 15 eggs have been sent. Once the sharks are healthy and competent, they will be scheduled for release into protected waters Aloha Nui Become a part of our ohana here, oceandefenderhawaii/join/
