From our member, Eric Browne: Ive been exploring two books the past few weeks that I strongly recommend. Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife by Mary Roach and Ghosts Among Us by James Van Praagh. Im still working on the latter, but Ive completed Spook. Two very different viewpoints. Roach is a staunch skeptic who sets out to prove paranormal events with science. While she cleverly debunks several cases, what is interesting are the conclusions (or lack thereof) she makes about the cases which she cannot find scientific explanation. One researcher explained the afterlife in a very interesting way. Im paraphrasing, but the concept was this. When you turn on your television to HBO, you see and hear the program through the device. When you change the channel or turn the TV off, HBO is still there, present in the waves around you, you just dont see it. The same is so for the human consciousness. Ones body amplifies the consciousness and serves as a tool for the spirit. But once the body shuts down, the consciousness remains, but is simply at a frequency that we cannot easily detect. I find this remarkable because we notice that animals, dogs especially, often react to unseen entities. They are sensitive to different frequencies. Other mammals, such as dolphins and bats, use sonar and sound waves to communicate and navigate. I wonder if human beings have the same capacity to experience such phenomena, only some are more sensitive than others. This would explain those with the third eye. Van Praagh has also mentioned that he channels messages from the other side through meditation and absorbing lower frequencies. Interesting connection. Ok, theres my short story for the day!
