(From the Australian Province of the Society of Jesus) Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of The Way, The Peace of Christ. At the end of last week I discussed with His Eminence Cardinal Pell, my wish to give Fr Edward Dooley a new assignment from the beginning of next year. Cardinal Pell understood and accepted my reasons for wishing to make this change. Fr Dooley has been Parish Priest of the parishes of Our Lady of The Way since the beginning of this year. After some months of soul searching by Fr Dooley, and after discussing the matter with his spiritual director, his Superior and trusted friends, he and I considered his situation together. My Consultors and I came to see that solely for personal reasons in regard to Fr Dooley, and for his ongoing health and peace, a change of assignment was the best course of action. Fr Dooley will finish as Parish Priest on the Feast of Christ The King, Sunday November 24th, 2013. In the coming months we will search for a suitable Jesuit who can be made available for appointment by Cardinal Pell as Parish Priest, or more likely as Administrator. In my search I will consult the Parish Council and the North Sydney Jesuit Community, along with my Delegate for Pastoral Ministry Fr Des Dwyer and my Consultors, among whom is the Superior of the North Sydney Jesuit Community, Fr Richard Leonard. At the same time I will be commissioning from the Province Ministries Commission a review of Jesuit parish commitments in Australia to consider how we may sustain our service to the Australian Church through pastoral ministry. I wish to thank Fr Dooley for his generous service as Parish Priest for the year. I wish to thank you also for the ways you share in the mission of the parish and the Church in Australia Today. In assuring you of my prayers for the parish, may I ask your ongoing prayers and support for Fr Dooley. In Our Lord, Fr Stephen Curtin S.J. Provincial
