From the CWAC facebook page: facebook/cheshirewest/timeline Changes to car parking in Northwich as Barons Quay transformation continues 23 December 2014 Work on the eagerly-awaited £80m regeneration of Northwich town centre gets going in earnest in the New Year. Build contractor Balfour Beatty, which moved on site in November to undertake preliminary works, will begin construction from January 5. In order to carry out the work – which will be initially focused around the Weaver Way, Barons Quay Road and Tabley Street and Leicester Street areas – some road and car park closures will be necessary. The Barons Quay and the Leicester Street car parks will close from January 5. Marks and Spencer’s car park will still be open and accessible from Barons Quay Road with signage to direct shoppers to the new entrance. To compensate for this change, additional long stay parking will be provided, free of charge, at the Cumberland car park and the Old Council Depot. The currently disused car park on Leicester Street will also be brought back use. Executive Member for Localities, Councillor Lynn Riley said: “This is an exciting time for Northwich and I’m delighted we’ll see these further developments early in the New Year. “As with any development, there will be some disruption and road closures, but these will be communicated regularly and clearly via a wide variety of methods, including websites, social media and the local press. “Our local alerts system will also be used extensively and I’d recommend that residents sign up at Your Cheshire West to ensure they receive the very latest information.” View: Councillor Lynn Rileys profile The Barons Quay scheme is a key priority in Cheshire West and Chester Council’s ambitious plans for the regeneration of Northwich. The massive development project will create 1,200 jobs and transform Northwich into one of the North West’s busiest market towns by 2016. In addition to an Odeon cinema and Asda superstore, Barons Quay will feature seven restaurants plus a hotel and cafes enjoying tranquil waterside views. The development will include more than 130,000 sq ft of new retail floor space and hundreds of car parking spaces.
