From the Centennial History of the Archdiocese of Dubuque 1837 – 1937, by Rev. M. M. Hoffman, copyright 1938) St. Wenceslaus Church was built in 1899 and blessed the 18th of October, 1901. It is located in Carroll Township of Tama county and has had the following pastors: The Rev. Vincent Opava, first pastor, 1900-1903, resided in a residence near St Wenceslaus Church. This home is used now only for parish dinners and meetings. Father Opava also had charge of Holy trinity Church in Otter Creek Township. The Rev. Aloysius Kolar, 1903-1907, was the second pastor. During his time a new house was built in Clutier, near Immaculate Conception Church and the pastors reside in Clutier now. All the priests here attended Holy also until a house was built in Vining. This wasa during Father Vopatek’s time and since then the Vining priest has charge of Holy Trinity. Rev. Joseph Gregor, 1908-1912, was the next pastor at Clutier. During this time the Methodist Church in clutier was bought and converted into a Catholic church. Mass was said in it only on week days at first, but later also on Sundays, one Mass at Immaculate Conception at Clutier every Sunday and one at Holy Trinity or St. Wenceslaus alternately, until Holy Trinity was transferred to the care of the Vining priests. The Rev. John Broz, 1912-1914 followed. Then the Rev. Placid Sasek, D.S.B., 1914-1918. The Rev. Thomas Vopatek arrived at St. Wencelaus as pastor in august, 1918, and presides at the present over the spiritual destinies of this parish, as well as that of Immaculate Conception parish of Clutier. St. Wenceslaus property consists of four acres, one for the church itself and three for the cemetery. Two daughters of the St. Wenceslaus parish have entered the Sisterhood.
