From the Desk of Johnny, We are constantly reminded today of the importance of taking care of our physical health. Were told what foods we should eat and what foods we should stay away from, how much exercise we need each day. The reminders tell us to watch our intake of calories, salt, sugar, fats, triglycerides, and trans-fats. The FDA recommends the amount of vitamins and minerals we need daily to maintain good health. I get an email weekly from my health insurance carrier on the subject! They call it Your Weekly Vitality Check! Its a good reminder to me to watch and be aware of all things that effect my health and advises me to make sure I get all the good stuff Im supposed to get inside my system each week. Surprisingly Ive never seen pork chops with biscuits and gravy included on that list! 😀 Seriously all these reminders are meant to help us reach levels of better health and thats a good thing. We should be more health conscious, our physical health is very important and to strive for and maintain good health requires discipline on our part. But what about our spiritual health? What about those things we allow into our hearts and minds? Paul wrote to Timothy on this subject in 1 Timothy 4:8; For bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. Paul didnt say for us to ignore our physical health, he tells us that our spiritual health is much more important because of its impact on life here and in the life to come. We must be very aware of what we eat and drink spiritually. It is the things we let inside our minds and hearts that determine what comes out of us, and we must never lose sight of this truth. Paul used the word discipline to teach us the importance of personal dedication and diligence in constantly protecting and improving our spiritual health. There is a very good reason we need to be hold spiritual health in such high importance; Paul goes on to say in 1 Timothy 4: 9- 10: It is a trustworthy statement deserving full acceptance. For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers. Our spiritual health determines the effectiveness of our spiritual ministry. There is no effective spiritual ministry apart from good spiritual health! Lets be spiritually healthy. Be careful of what goes into your heart and mind. God Bless! Brother Johnny
