From the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, winter weather - TopicsExpress

From the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, winter weather conditions for Tuesday morning commute Kentucky motorists have a chance for their first encounter with winter driving conditions on Tuesday morning. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Highway Crews across the region are on alert for what is expected to be a fast moving winter system. Each of the 11 counties of KYTC District 2 will bring in a small crew at 4:30 a.m., to pretreat bridges and overpasses before the morning commute. That will allow crews to be ready to respond quickly should additional slick spots develop. Highway crews are expecting a rain/snow mix beginning after about 2 a.m., changing over to light snow showers before sunrise. The air temp is expected to hover at about 33 degrees. However, the wind chill will run about 23 degrees, creating the opportunity for slush to develop very quickly if temps should drop below freezing. This is expected to be a quick moving system. If you plan to be on the road Tuesday please be aware that all of Kentucky should see some form of wintry precipitation early in the day. For the most part, we are looking at a chance of light snow that could create some slushy driving conditions for the morning commute. Road surface temps are adequate to melt most snow as it falls. However, some counties could easily have slushy driving conditions with road temps right at freezing for morning rush hour traffic. Even though snow will be light, visibility could be very poor at times. Winds are forecast to gust at 25 to 30 mph during this time period. Please keep an eye on your local forecasts this evening and check local weather conditions before you head out on Tuesday morning.
