From the NWS Jacksonville Florida this morning: Synopsis & Timing A low pressure system will move over the Gulf Coast region today through early Tuesday. Widespread rainfall will continue to affect the area today and this evening with waves of locally heavy rainfall expected. A more robust line of showers and scattered thunderstorms is expected to affect portions of northeast Florida this afternoon. A few strong to severe storms are possible which will be capable of gusty winds. Rainfall amounts will range from 2 to 3 inches...with locally higher amounts. Rainfall will decrease from the west to east early Tuesday morning. Rainfall: Widespread rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches have already occurred over the Suwanee River Valley and portions of inland SE Georgia. An additional 1-3 inches are expected over the forecast area for this event...with locally higher amounts possible. This amount of rainfall will cause some areal flooding problems and area river rises later in the week. Severe Storm Potential: A few strong to severe storms will be possible generally along and south of a St. Augustine to Gainesville line. The first wave of strong storms will continue to stream inland from the Gulf of Mexico early this morning. This thunderstorm activity will likely decrease in intensity later this morning, but locally heavy rainfall will continue. Thunderstorm activity is expected to increase once againthis afternoon as a line of precipitation develops in the Gulf and tracks across the Florida peninsula. As the thunderstorms cross the Florida peninsula this afternoon and evening, gusty winds will be possible in stronger activity. There is also the potential for rotating storms. A slight risk of storms is outlined for portions of northeast Florida today and this evening, as depicted in the below graphic.
