My response: Getting rid of the war equipment for police would help Mr. President. Regulating is not enough, the war-like appearance, vehicles and the disdain for citizens and the law exhibited, with great success, by many police officers is not going to help the healing. Right now the whole world is watching and many Americans consider this situation in Ferguson and New York a warning to all Americans, not only African Americans. None of us feel safe and unless/until a strong message is sent to the thugs in uniform who keep getting away with murder, we are heading in the wrong direction. The grand jury in Ferguson was handed an outdated law prior to their deliberations, the so-called prosecutor did not prosecute and we still accept the result. In New York, the ME declared Mr. Garners death a homicide, but the cop walks free. Is there any circumstance in which a police officer who breaks the law will be prosecuted and convicted? I remember years ago when I traveled on business and witnessed regular police in other countries who were heavily armed, had an attitude and made me feel unsafe, I remember how glad I was to get home and away from that. Guess what, Mr. President. I am an older white woman and I dont feel that sense of comfort any more. Arming cops to the teeth will not fix it Sir.
