From the NWS and JP Emergency Management Here are the highlights of the NWS Severe Weather and Heavy Rainfall Potential Briefing: · An upper level disturbance moved through the region overnight producing substantial rainfall across much of the area – mainly north and east of Baton Rouge to New Orleans line. · Southwest Mississippi received 4 to 7 inches of rainfall. · An upper level disturbance and surface cold front over Texas will move across the region tonight bringing another round of showers and thunderstorms over the west portion. · Due to heavy rainfall saturating the ground overnight – a Flash Flood Watch is in effect for portions of the area through tonight. · There will also be a Slight Chance of Severe Thunderstorms overnight. · Primary threat – damaging wind, hail, isolated tornado. · Drier and slightly cooler air will spread into the area Saturday morning – with rain chances diminishing.
