From the Smack Your Forehead Department: John has a safe deposit box at his bank and put a document in it that I need to get my hands on. It proves Daniels U.S. Citizenship and the Marines need to see it so he can be part of their Delayed Entry Program. I also suspect the judge will want to see it to complete Daniels name change. The bank says John didnt list me as someone to have access to the box. John is adamant that he did, plus he gave me my own key. Someone at the bank screwed up. They say that the only way John can correct this (their mistake) is to see them in person. Obviously, he cant do that right now. Even with financial power of attorney, they wont let me access the box. They said I need a court order and that they would have to call in a locksmith, drill through the wall and go in through the side of the box. My thoughts? Wow...they would go to all that trouble when I could just HAND THEM THE KEY??? Turns out, the document I need is due for renewal, which I can do online through INS. Good I didnt make them haul in that locksmith, though I am tempted to do it...just to be a pain.
