From the Summer Hummer Co-chair Bug Yes indeed it is almost here. This years event runs from noon on Thursday June 19th through Saturday June 21st with most folks packing up and journeying home or elsewhere on Sunday June 22nd. When you arrive at the gate to enter your land Auntie ABATE, Bill Roberge and their friendly minions will take your advanced ticket, sell you a weekend pass, (or a Saturday only pass if you are coming for just Saturday), give you a schedule of events and if you wish, a Twits Mingle Hunt sheet and Regional Poker Walk sheet. And, deal of all deals, if you are not currently an ABATE of Wisconsin member, they will sell you a membership as well. That way your $50 non-member entrance fee not only gets you into the event, but also makes you a member of the strongest motorcyclists rights organization in the country. Once youve gotten your wristband simply find a place to set-up camp. Many Regions camp in a group and all are welcoming to newbies. Once youve set-up you can begin to wander seeking answers to the trivia questions on Twits Mingle Hunt which is a great way to meet new friends and learn sometimes strange or bizarre facts about some of your fellow members. The Regional Poker Walk is also taking place at this time. Here various Regions will serve you a sample of their particular beverage which you then vote on as to which is your favorite. It is also a good way to observe the behavior and lifestyles of the different Regions ... You can also rent a picnic table and fire ring at the front gate. First come first served and when theyre gone thats it. Also please keep glass, cans etc. out of the fire rings. All that walking around can tend to make a body a bit dry: so just mosey on to the bar building where Bug and his helpers can cure your thirst with your favorite fermented malt beverage, soda, wine cooler or water. They also have ice for sale to help you keep your perishables cold. Attached to the bar is the ABATE Products building. Dawn, Stephanie and their Very Important Products Reps can fill all of your ABATE clothing and swag shopping needs. If music is what you came for on Thursday evening Aint Got Jack takes the stage under the tent to rock the night away at 8pm. Check out the vendor areas for food, info, various different apparel or tattoos if you need more ink. And dont fret if you run short of cash as there is an ATM located in the bar building for your convenience. Located next to the ATM is the bar-chip & raffle ticket table. Here is where you purchase your drink tokens and obtain more chances to win the Statewide All Cash Raffle. As a bonus you get to chat with Laurie and her helpful tellers. On Friday the gate opens at 8am. Twits Mingle Hunt and the Regional Poker Walk continue. Games start at noon with the Tug of War, 1pm is the Plank Walk, 2pm The Helmet Toss, 4pm Beer Bobbing. The bar building and products open at 10am. The music starts Friday afternoon with Rat Sass followed in the evening by Bobby Evans and the Alimony Blues Band. Also all day Friday Bonney and her helpers will be in the admissions building to help you draw your hands in the 2013-14 Statewide Poker Run -- the new books for the 2014-15 poker run also will be on sale and Regional Reps are encouraged to stop in and sign out a supply of these new books for sales in their regions. And after dark on Friday (around 10pm) is Bugs Anatomy Contest where contestants vie for crowd cheers in a thoroughly soaked, stupid looking, white sort of, male persons, conservative kind of middle of the road, cotton undergarment-WHOOPIE! Saturday the main gate again opens at 8am. Mingle Hunt and Poker Walk continue. Statewide Poker Run hands can be drawn between 10am and 5pm. 10am is the Bike Blessing followed by the Ride to The Highground Veterans Memorial. From 9:30am to 2pm is the Old School Bike Show near the bar. Check out the kind of rides some of us had when our hair wasnt grey and all of our fillings were tight. 11am is the Loud Pipes Contest and yes the seismograph people in Madison have been notified. 12:30pm-3:30 there again will be bike games. Beer Bobbing is at 4pm. Bar Stool Races begin at 6pm. Saturdays music begins in the afternoon with Los Guys. They are followed in the evening by Oil Can Harry. Between OCH sets the winners of the 2013-14 Statewide Poker Run and The Statewide All Cash Raffle are announced. Also at this time our Executive Director Chubby will give a short talk and welcome. Pogie and his land crew are around all weekend to help direct you to a parking spot or answer land based questions. Our CSO Pat Sheridan and his sanitation engineers will be operating the Toxic Taxi all weekend keeping our refuse at a manageable level. And for something no other SMRO has there is Worm and his helper chauffeurs to drive you around the grounds in the ABATE Acres Express. For Derail and the entire Summer Hummer committee I hope to see you all at this years event and please have a safe ride home afterwards. Help is still needed bar-tending, Toxic Taxi, Chip Table, overnight front gate security and many other departments. Call one of the department heads now or speak with us at the event. Work one volunteer shift and receive 3 drink tokens. Work 2 shifts get 9 tokens. (for contact information to volunteer go to abatewis.org/page.php?section=1&subsection=1&article_id=6597 ) FABULOUS! See you there! (21 y/o and over, photo ID required at gate.)
