From the U.S. attorneys office: A Grand Island auto sales business has been put on probation and fined by the U.S. attorney’s office for illegal financial transactions. Gomez Inc., doing business as Fourth Street Auto Sales, was convicted of illegally structuring financial transactions. U.S. District Court Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced the company to five years of probation and ordered them to pay a $50,000 fine. The judge also ordered the forfeiture of $10,361 and ordered the company to pay a $125 special assessment fee, according to a press release from the U.S. attorney’s office. The release also gave the following information: Between Jan. 5, 2009, and March 30, 2012, Gomez, Inc. deposited and directed currency deposits into bank accounts at various financial institutions. The company and its officers were aware of the financial institution’s legal obligation to report currency transactions in excess of $10,000 but the company’s officers intentionally structured deposits to the bank in amounts under $10,000, in order to evade the reporting requirements. The transactions totalled between $1 million and just over $2 million, including the $10,361.70 seized by the government as a result of the investigation. This case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigation.
