From the article: Now researchers say theyve spotted evidence that a split-second [after the Big Bang], the expansion of the cosmos began with a powerful jump-start ... Although many scientists already believed that initial, extremely rapid growth spurt happened, finding this evidence has been a key goal in the study of the universe. [T]he new finding could rank with the greatest discoveries about the universe [such as] the discovery that the universes expansion is accelerating. Now I may be wrong in my thinking here, and if anyone understands it better then please correct me, but if the universe started expanding faster than expected, and is still accelerating even today, then wont that cause the universe to look older than it is? That is, if the dating is based on the measurement of distant stars and their light, because wont it be distorted if its ever moving and going further away at a faster rate than it was previously known; or if in the beginning the stars were thrust a further distance at a faster speed, as this new discovery implies? Maybe theres more to the dating than that, but this was just my initial thoughts. Any science-y people wanna jump in?
