From the desk of Dr. Tulip I often affectionately refer to my horde of grandchildren as The Borg. If you are a Star Trek: Next Generation fan you would recognize the Borg as an alien race of cyborgs who collectively work as a unit like a bee hive. See pic. #1. It is all about The Collective. New members are given a number and inducted with the warning - Resistance is futile. You will be assimilated - a rather harsh and mechanical approach to parenting. Pic. #2 is of my wife Birgitta with our 3 day old granddaughter Sophia. In Borg vernacular she would be called Eleven of Twelve. If a picture says a thousand words, I perceive a grandmother who is pleased. I am so thankful for her sacrifice and devotion in the rearing of our children. Unlike the Borg approach to parenting, I would adopt a quote from Jim Elliot to describe Birgittas legacy. (S)He is no fool who gives what (s)he cannot keep to gain what (s)he cannot lose. I hope you find such reasons for thanksgiving this week. Remember....Life is short. Pass it on! P.S. Lest you think my math is bad, Pic. #3 is our latest grandchild with a Borg name of Twelve of Twelve and has a projected delivery of stardate - 307644.64161593106. -- (~ mid May 2015). :)
