From the mind of Davin Michael Stedman: Im trying to back up all the little digital music demos Ive recorded, before I leave for Puerto Rico in about a month. But theres no way. I have thousands of musical sketches and basic ideas. I pray that I can somehow back up 75% of this stuff. Then theres the shoebox of micro tapes from college and the years following it. I like to think that if I was more organized, I wouldnt be nearly as productive creatively. Creativity to me is often what begins as abstract attempts to control chaos. Finding order in absurdity, and absurdity in order. One of my tricks to milking creative output is the self awareness that if you are procrastinating, maybe you should be doing more of what you found so distracting, whether its playing guitar or avoiding your commitment to do so. Maybe you were supposed to be practicing guitar and you found yourself cooking. Strict discipline is meant to be slacked upon - it begets real progress. These tiny failures potentially amount to enormous victories, as my fellow musicians call the happy accidents that lead to some of our greatest musical passages.
