From the original post: The wolves are changing rivers because they act on their self interest. Profiting, helping themselves, and eating other animals actually helps the entire ecosystem thrive. In economics, this is an example of implicit cooperation (the actor(s) being unaware their behavior helps others). This implicit cooperation is basically how markets work. The result of that implicit cooperation is what we can call spontaneous order. In political terms, its called market anarchy (no ruler governing all the behavior and actions the actors in the economy take). Under this voluntary, anarchic arrangement, each actor -- by pursuing eachs self interests -- helps an order they cant see (what Adam Smith called the invisible hand). The other type of cooperation, explicit cooperation, is easier to recognize. An example of explicit cooperation would be you saying Do you need help lifting that box? Yes? Okay, Ill help. Its overt. Politics tries to come off as an explicit way society cooperates and organizes, but the results practically always end up being the opposite of what is promised. When peace is promised, there is war. When freedom is promised, there is some form of slavery (which is always various degrees of economic) and bondage. When free goods are promised, they become extremely expensive. So, in this case, the wolves are totally unaware of the implicit cooperation they are engaging in through the pursuit of their own happiness and self-interest or personal psychological profit and the effects of it -- the improvement of the eco-system.
