From the threads ; After thinking it over, I think I have actually come to a conclusion on this . I dont see myself changing the minds of anybody with my advocacy. I see 2 avenues for getting votes. The main avenue is by giving someone something to vote for. We are well aware republicans run on the platform of fear and hatred built on a foundation of ignorance. It seems to me that progressive voters are very much turned off by those motivations and actively seek to avoid things that cause them. In short I think they are sickened by them. I think a better motivation is to give them something to vote for. Obviously this is not a dollars and cents issue. Its about social justice. Give them a clear and uncompromising Avenue to express their desire for social justice and you have traffic jam. I notice on my posts which ones get the most traffic and its clearly those short appeals to righteousness. The 2nd avenue to obtain votes is by informing those people who are uninformed. The uninformed at this point are people who actively seek to avoid politics. I think Jon Stewart ,Colbert, and the others have discovered the inroad to those voters. Entertain them. This is as old as political parties themselves. Its beer and fried chicken for the masses. Jon Stewarts rally in DC is a terrific example of the kind of party atmosphere that can transform a tedious political rally into a social event. Liz Warren provides a wonderful example of how these two things can be melded. Stand up and be counted. Dont attempt to avoid losing your Republican voters. Forget them. Concentrate on giving your Democrats something to vote for. The best defense is a good offense
