From this mornings news brief - Monday, Nov.11 Luis Fernando Quintero, president of Social works and infrastructure Trust (FOIS for its acronym in Spanish) Public Works subcommittee asked for patience from the residents of Los Cabos in regards to the road works that are being conducted all over the city. He pointed out that despite the inconveniences caused by these works they will be of great benefit to the county. In regards to the expansion of the MIsiones overpass in CSL engineer Quintero said that the ministry of communications and transport will expand the turning radius on the bridge which will cause the temporary closing of the overpass and the creation of temporary detours which is the reason for the opening on the highway dividers. The works on the transpeninsular highways are expected to last another 4 months, especially on the expansion of the Misiones overpass to allow large trucks to use the bridge without problems. He also said that all the dangerous crossings on the highway will be closed. Engineer Quintero announced that one of the most dangerous crossings in the area is the one in Cerro Colorado which led to the decision of building an overpass in this place. The construction will begin in approximately six months. Nevertheless and because of the danger that this crossing presents and the need to lessen the number of traffic accidents speed reducers have been placed in the area, which is a measure that has not been welcomed by drivers who complaint about possible damages to their vehicles, nevertheless drivers are asked to drive with caution and slow down to the minimum speed marked in the zone to prevent accidents. According to Quintero Rocha if people drive over the speed reducers at a speed of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour there is no damage to the vehicle. The first international civil engineering forum concluded this Saturday evening at the international convention center. The keynote presentation was by architect Eric Tomich, designer of the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai. Who explained to the participants that SOM, the company he represents has built a large number of the highest super tall buildings in the world, including the tallest one at 828mts (905.5 yards). Before going into his conference architect Tomich said that even though hadn’t seen much of Los Cabos he thinks it’s a beautiful place and said that our destination has a great opportunity to integrate the development of high quality projects with the natural environment of this area as is the case in other cities around the world like San Francisco and Rio de Janeiro. https://soundcloud/claudia-velo/erictomich-cities-comment-lcb Eric Tomich pointed out that the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai was a very special project because the economic and development conditions were present to allow this building. He finished by saying that in his experience all economic crisis have cycles and there will always be opportunities to create interesting designs applying technology and the highest levels of engineering. https://soundcloud/claudia-velo/eric-tomich-world-economy Luis Fernando Quintero Rocha, President of the College of Engineers said that the event aimed to bring students closer to great personalities like Eric Tomich to share his professional knowledge. Mayor José Antonio Agundez responded to the ultimatum of the entrepreneurial sector, which was posed through the Los Cabos Coordinating Council, where the authorities were required to either yield results in the implementation of justice or resign to their positions. He first condemned the November 4, murder of 15-year old Ma. Fernanda, while he acknowledged tat there are public safety issues in the county.
