From today, in UK, everybody, straight or gay and lesbian will be able to marry their partners, if they so wish. The Gay Marriage Act which has had its Royal Assent last year came into force. As I think back to the days of Gay and Lesbian Rights Movements, it is to the youth of today, particularly the gay and lesbian youth of today, I would like to remind them it has been a long hard journey, fraught with pain, hardship and sacrifices; and many brave gay men and lesbian women had given their lives along the way for our day today. Gay Prides should be both celebration but more of commemoration of the Gay and Lesbian history so that the youth of today dont think such rights had been there for granted all along. It is important the youth of today knows and understand their history. Thats all we, of the Gay Rights Movements generation ask of the youth. No need for messages of thanks etc just for them to know their rights have not been gained without pain and losses and therefore to value and be responsible.
