From todays Financial Review. Alan Mitchell has a puff piece about the wonders of Free Trade. My eyes were drawn to this section though. Apparently providing public services and consumer protection is anti-competitive. Who knew? ANTI-COMPETITIVE BARRIERS These barriers are anti-competitive regulations and arrangements, such as the use of government employees to provide important services and professional licensing intended to protect consumers. Most were created with no thought of the possibility of international trade in services but, like all anti-competitive arrangements, they enjoy powerful support from vested interests.
