Fruit and Vegetable Mandi for Kishtwar to be established: Samoon KISHTWAR, AUGUST 03-On his visit to District Kishtwar, Commissioner Secretary Agriculture Production, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon chaired a meeting regarding implementation of various schemes of agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture, Fisheries, Saffron development Mission, Animal and Sheep Husbandry and Sericulture department in the district. District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, Saleem Mohammad, various Divisional level officers of concerned departments besides the representatives of Saffron growers, Farmers and Fruit growers were present in the meeting. Taking stock of the fruit production in the district, Mr Samoon sanctioned a starting amount of Rs 10 Lakhs for establishing a Fruit and Vegetable Mandi in an area measuring 20 Kanal. He directed the concerned officials to prepare a plan for Rain Water Harvesting in the region for irrigation and also sanctioned Rs 20 Lakh for this purpose. As this region is famous for its high quality saffron, Mr Samoon asked the officials of Saffron Development Mission to properly implement the scheme in the district. A pilot project regarding sprinkle irrigation for saffron fields will be started. Regarding Fruit storage, he asked the fruit growers to construct a Cold Storage Facility on community basis for which the government will provide monetary assistance and technical support. The Commissioner Secretary also directed the officials to start training programme for Horticulturalists in each block and see the possibility of establishing a canning centre for food processing. The working of Animal husbandry department was also reviewed and the concerned officials were directed to provide feed and fodder for livestock. Mr Samoon called for a comprehensive action plan for Agriculture production in the region by converging these schemes with MGNREGA and other initiatives.
