Full of Know How.......... The things you knew but didnt really think about. Many people are looking to lands afar for a little more sun before our full winter hits us. It has been reported that more and more people are taking that well earned break so here are some tips for those staying at home or going away. 1. Swimming without unpleasant surprises. Seawater or pool water can be pretty hard on hair. After a swim in the deep blue seas, salt crystals may form in your hair and increase the damage to your hair. The crystals with like little burning glasses, which bundle and focus the suns rays. Whenever possible, you should rinse your hair under fresh water after a swim in the sea. You can even use a fresh bottle of water to run over your hair. Pool water has its own hazards for hair. Disinfectants like chlorine or copper may turn blonde or grey hair green. Your remedy for this is dissolve 3 aspirin tablets in a litre of water and soak your hair in the solution for 1 hour then thoroughly rinse with tap water. 2. During summer months or on holiday your diet should consist of generous amounts of Vitamin C and E as well as beta-carotene. As effective antioxidants they neutralize the free radicals, which are more numerous in bright sunlight. Otherwise, these free radicals damage or destroy cells. Particularly rich antioxidants are fruits, berries and vegetable such as apricots, berries, grapes, broccoli and spinach. 3. After a 2 week holiday in the sun (or potentially the week we are meant to be having of sun before the snow arrives this year) it is a good idea to hair your hair cut by about a centimeter to stop split ends appearing or from getting worse. THis will also give your hair more bounce. 4. You hair should never be exposed directly to intense UV light. This applies particularly to the midday sunlight between 11am and 3pm. Sun hats caps and bandannas provide great UV protection. If headwear is not really your cup of tea then you can buy products that have UV guards i.e.macadamia oil protects the hair from UVA and UVB rays and keeps the moisture in the hair. It can also prevent bleaching. It is always best to use any protector before you go into the sunlight. Think about what you do whilst youre out and about with your hair. Its not just for Christmas, its for life.
