Fulton County Urges Citizens to Retrieve Abandoned Vehicles as Weather Conditions Improve for Safe Travel Fulton Countys Facilities & Transportation Services Department and Fulton County Police Department urge citizens to retrieve their abandoned vehicles as weather conditions approve to allow for safe travel. However they warn motorists to remain cautious particularly on state and local roads that may still be coated with black ice. Beginning this morning, state agencies, to include the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), National Guard and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) HEROs will be available to transport motorists to vehicles abandoned on Atlanta interstates during the recent winter storm. Clearing these vehicles expediently is a critical factor in GDOTs efforts to reopen all lanes to traffic. Two staging areas for transport opened at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. •Drivers who left their vehicles on I-20 and I-285 west should report to the Westlake MARTA station (parking area), 80 Anderson Ave. SW, Atlanta. •Drivers who left their vehicles on I-75, the top end of I-285 and the Downtown Connector (I-75/I-85) should report to Mount Paran Church (parking area), 2055 Mount Paran Road, Atlanta. Once there, drivers will be transported by official personnel in a 4-wheel-drive to their vehicle. There will be fuel available for vehicles that ran out of gas as well as the capability to jump off a dead battery. GSP will have a database to help motorists locate their vehicle if it was towed to an impound lot and provide transportation to the facility. Motorists should bring car keys and drivers license to Check-In. Please note for Fulton citizens who have vehicles in the City of Atlanta, the City will NOT be towing abandoned vehicles. Individuals needing assistance locating and retrieving vehicles should contact GDOT at (877) 694-2511 or check their website at dot.ga.gov/travelingingeorgia/severeweather/Pages/WinterWeather.aspx The Fulton County Police Department has taken the precaution to move some vehicles in order to make roads passable and positioned those vehicles close to their original location. For Fulton citizens in unincorporated Fulton County having difficulty locating their vehicles, the owner should begin by contacting the 911 Center at their non-emergency number (404-730-7911) or S&W Towing (404-622-8360) for further assistance. For Fulton citizens in all other municipalities within the County having difficulty locating their vehicles, they can also contact the 911 Center at their non-emergency number (404-730-7911) for routing assistance to the appropriate municipality. Residents encountering icy road conditions while traveling to their vehicles in unincorporated Fulton County, report your location by calling 404-613-3105 or 404-612-4223.
