Fun Fact Friday ! Habitat Restoration Extreme! While much of the Restoration of the Everglades focuses on water, another large scale project is underway in former farm fields within park boundaries. Farming created unnatural deep soils and allowed the exotic and highly invasive Brazilian Pepper to cover up to 6,000 acres inside the park! Only way to get rid of the plant is to remove the soil. We just completed another 200+ acres of scraping a few months ago. Now we watch as (mostly!) native species colonize the open space. As vegetation grows back, its a salad bar for the herbivores!
