Other notable events for July 26: FBI founded 1908; Vivian Vance born 1909 (I Love Lucy sidekick Ethel Mertz); Rocker Mick Jagger born 1943, Olympian Dorothy Hamill born 1956; Actress Kate Beckinsale born 1973. And in 1947, President Truman signed the National Security Act, creating the Department of Defense, the National Security Council, the Central Intelligence Agency and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
