Fund. Build. Engage. The tide is rising for Democrats and the Georgia Democratic Party. Georgia’s changing demographics and voting patterns bodes well for a resurgence of Georgia’s Democrats with the distinct possibility of turning the state blue in just a few short years. Building our Party infrastructure across the state will require the necessary funding to engage the electorate and turnout the vote. We have an opportunity to recruit, energize and establish the loyalty of hundreds of thousands of Georgians by reconnecting to them with Georgia values. We don’t need to find our supporters – we know who they are. The DPG needs to bridge the gap between Georgia Democrats with the necessary tools. Doug Stoner has a three-point plan to help build the Democratic Party of Georgia. Fund. An immediate fundraising effort to satisfy any outstanding debt and get us back to a stable financial position: The initial drive will focus on engaging large donors. Already, Doug is reaching out to donors with commitments to jumpstart a fall drive These initial funds will allow the Party to hire a professional and stream-lined staff. Simultaneously, craft and execute 12 and 24-month fundraising plans to stabilize finances and promote long-term financial health of the organization. Build. Decentralize the Democratic Party of Georgia While Atlanta may be the home of the DPG, a successful structural rebuild will require the input and participation from Democrats around the state. An emphasis will be placed on creating a statewide staff that is experienced, lean and non-centralized to support the work of county operations across the state. The Party must provide hands-on support to county party leadership teams through: Fundraising training Communications training Voter registration and identification training Engage. Execute against revised Party infrastructure to turn out Democratic voters in 2014. Provide materials and support to county Party leadership and members. Increase communication and work with like-minded coalitions and organizations. Develop voter targeting, voter registration, candidate recruitment and training and race targeting to increase bang for buck for Democratic strategies. Create a mechanism for vetting candidate staffing to ensure the highest quality of work on campaigns and improve Democratic candidate success rate.
