Fundraiser for Lukas Lukass story: Lukas was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma 5 years ago. He has had a very rough road with multiple surgeries and treatments. He has been through years of chemo, many rounds of radiation and a number of other treatments. He has traveled from Portland to New York to Texas to Seattle looking for a cure. Fortunately he has beaten all odds thus far and is still a happy little boy, unfortunately nothing has cured him. Yet! He is currently enrolled in a new trial of t-cell implant. This will take his t-cells and mutate them into cancer attacking cells which will then be implanted back in him. This trial is a stage one trial that was just recently approved by the FDA. Lukas will be the first child in the US with neuroblastoma to try this treatment. As scary as it is not knowing all the he side affects Lukas and his family have no other choice. This treatment has been promising for other diseases such as Leukemia so we will pray that it is as successful for Neuroblastoma. He is having surgery and his t-cells extracted the week of Jan 5 and will return to Seattle early February to have his cells implanted. He will have to be carefully monitored for an entire month and this is potentially a very risky thing. Every decision is a hard decision when you are having to consider your childs life but this is the only option for Lukas right now. As of now if this treatment doesnt work we are sadly out of options, unless another trial opens up. Lukas is considered terminal. However he is a little warrior with a huge spirit and has fought hard his entire life! According to every dr he has encountered he is is a miracle. It should have been impossible for a little boy diagnosed with stage 4 cancer to live 5 more years with as much cancer as he has had in his body that entire time. And I cant lie everyone of his family members, really anyone that has the privilege to meet Lukas will agree with the Drs he is a miracle! Lukas has an amazing mom Emily she is both mother and father to her son, has many sleepless nights and has to miss work often because of traveling for medical care and being the primary caretaker---my wish is to Raise funds to help them with numerous and continual extra expenses incurred while traveling for Lukas medical treatment.
