Fundraising Cycle A fundraising cycle is currently being organising for Sunday, July 21st, in aid of Skeheenarinky National School. The School is in bad need of funds this year. There will be three routes to choose from: a challenging 100km route, a 45km route and a 7km family fun route. All routes are outlined in detail below. When and Where The cycle will start from the School on Sunday, July 21st 2013 The 100km route will leave at 10:00am, the 45km route will leave at 10:30am and the 7km family route will leave at 11:00am. Registration will be from 9:00am onwards. The Routes 100km route The 100km route is a challenging event with a number of testing hills, including The Vee, Melleray Hill and Knocklofty. Starting at the School, the route heads toward Kilbehenny, but turns left at the “Millionaire’s House” (now a HQ for the Irish Red Cross), which brings the cyclists to Ballyporeen. From there, the route heads to Clogheen and turns right, which brings us up the Vee and into County Waterford. On the descent of The Vee, we turn left, on to the Cappoquin road, and then turn left again at the “Cat’s Bar”. This takes us into Melleray village, where the first food stop will be. The major climb of the day, Melleray Hill, starts right from the off. Melleray, like the Vee, is a Category 3 climb, but the last mile is almost twice as steep in places, which makes it seem far tougher. Don’t let this put you off though – the views from the top are not to be missed. Serious caution is advised on the descent, as speeds of 70km/h+ are easily reachable. Entry Fees The entry fees for the cycle are as follows: €20 per person for the 100km route; €15 per person for the 45km route; €10 per family for the 7km route.
