GAINS OF JUNE 12: 20-YEARS AFTER. As we clocked the second decade - TopicsExpress

GAINS OF JUNE 12: 20-YEARS AFTER. As we clocked the second decade after that momentous opportunity to build the much needed bridge of unity across all spectrum of this country, I wish to posit that it is unfair to see the events and aftermath of that day in a wholesome negative light. Whilst it is indisputable that we, as a nation, are miles away from where we ought to be, given the enormous human intellectual capacity and resources bestowed on us by nature, we certainly have made some gains if only lopsided geographically. Take for instance, we in Osun state, after the harrowing experiences of recent past, it is fair to say we have made appreciable gains in the last last three years or so. For specific example, the government of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has so far mopped up some 40,000 youths hopelessly and helplessly stuck in the unemployment stranglehold and we are currently in the eye and consciousness of the whole world in areas of innovation, thanks to the successful implementation of the investment in our youths through the Opon Imo. In the Southwest in particular, we are generally witnessing a new brand of competitive progressivism in our leaders. Governor Babatunde Fashola took the lead in awakening our environmental consciousness and this has become a template for the Southwest governors. Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti beamed his radar on the need to take care and look after the aged in our midst as a necessary message to the younger generation that they need not corruptly and or criminally enrich themselves to save for the raining old age; and Governor Aregbesola, in spite of the meagre resources accruing to the state is matching the initiative of Ekiti in this regard. Even Ondo which is presently a minority government in the Group of Six governments of the old Western region came up with the Abiye programme to tackle the age old children mortality rate and Governor Fashola said, if Mimiko can do it, so can we! What we must not forget is that majority, if not all of these leaders are products of June 12 even if indirectly. Take Governor Aregbesola for instance, this gold was dug up by Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was and remains the key player of June 12. On an individual level, what is life and living, if without a purpose? In my opinion, Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Abiola was created and made for the sole purpose of June 12 and gloriously exited after accomplishing that divine assignment. Today we in the Southwest are at home CELEBRATING the times and life of the great icon - what better way to live than be opportune to touch so many lives? Moreover, it is only a question of time before June 12 is dully recognised as the Nigeria democracy day and the name of Bashorun MKO Abiola will be forever etched officially in the historic archive of this country. I hope that time is June 12, 2015 and it is with this hope that I say weep not Nigeria, for the best of times is looming in the horizon - THANKS TO JUNE 12.
