GAMBIA EX DIRECTOR GENERAL OF IMMIGRATION FACING TRIAL FOR ALLOWING ONE SYRIAN AND ONE LEBANON CITIZEN WITHOUT FOLLOWING IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES Published on Saturday, 09 November 2013 17:33 | By Mamadou Dem Mr Buba Sanyang, former Director General of the Gambia Immigration Department was on Wednesday 6th of November, 2013, arraigned before Principal Magistrate Hillary Abeke of the Banjul Magistrates’ court, charged with one count of ‘Abuse of Office’ contrary to the laws of The Gambia. According to the particulars of offence, the aforesaid person on orr about the 28th of October 2013, at the Immigration headquarters, in the city of Banjul and diverse places, the republic of the Gambia, abused the authority of his office, as the Director General of the Immigration Department by issuing an entry clearance to Ali Chahin, a Syrian national and Hussein Abs, a Lebanese national, without following the appropriate Immigration procedures, thereby committed an offence. He denied the charge and was granted bail in the sum of five million dalasis with two Gambian sureties who should deposit title deeds situated within the greater Banjul Area and swear to an affidavit of means. The accused was represented by Lamin S Camara alongside Edward Singhatey whilst Assistant Superintendent of Police {ASP}, Lamin Badjie, appeared for the Inspector General of Police. The case is adjourned to 20th of this month, 2013 for hearing.
