GAME 3 World Champ Match: When game 1 ended both players shook hands with 30 pieces still left on the board! When game 2 ended there were 22! But when game 3 ended today only 4 pieces were left on the board!! Wow! What exactly did the players eat on the Rest day! Today Anand looked extremely determined as he came 5 minutes before the start of the game, adjusted his pieces and meditated quietly. Carlsen as usual arrived hurried a few seconds before the start of play! As the game turned into an English opening from 1.Nf3, the originality of the arising position, convinced the viewers that the stronger player will come out on top! And here it was but natural to think that the ELO favourite Magnus would slowly and steadily outplay Vishy Anand. But Anand has been taking Magnus out of his comfort zone every now and then. And how exactly does he do it? Instead of making the game flow on its own terms, Vishy forces Magnus to make decisions every now and then. For eg 3...dc4 and then 10...Nd4. werent the best of moves but of course threw Magnus off his desired course. After a few moves it was clear Vishy Anand had the space advantage while Magnus had the lead in development. As Magnus had the short lived advantage of active pieces, it was very important for him to play with precision. However he played casually, and out came Anands slumbering pieces! Not only did he catch up in development but retained his space advantage! The next phase of the game was really every positional players delight as Vishy weaved little moves like b6! Rab8! Rfc8! Be5! Be6! c5! b5! and the situation became extremely grave for the norwegian challenger. Not only were the black pieces notoriously active, Magnus had managed to manoeuvre his queen geniusly to the most passive square on the board Qh1! As a final message that he wanted blood today, Vishy declined the three fold repetition opportunity and started mercilessly advancing his queenside pawns. Things were getting out of hand for the 23 year old when he decided enough is enough!
