[GAME RECAP]: Record Setting Win for Flames Welch College 97 Boyce College 82 January 17, 2015. At least one record was broken by the Flames today as they defeated Boyce College 97-82 at the Picirilli Activity Center. What started out as a kind of ho hum game in the first half turned into a spectacle as Welch College put on a clinic, scoring 70 points in the second half to pull away from the Bulldogs and secure the win. “I would assume that 70 points in a half is a school record,” said Coach Nathan Willhite. “It was a fun game to watch and coach.” Trailing 42-27 at the half, the Flames began to chip away at the Bulldogs lead after the intermission. They poured in 34 points in the first 9:48 to knot the score at 61 on a Chris Simon three-pointer. From there, it was all Flames as they exploded for 36 more points in the final 10 minutes of play to seal the victory. In one of the most phenomenal shooting displays of any basketball game, the Flames shot a remarkable 81% from two-point range and 73% from outside the arc. “I thought we really played well in the second half,” added Willhite. “We did a good job of finding the open man and everyone seemed to hit their shots.” Another possible school record for Welch College was Chris Simon’s game-high 29 second half points. He was five for five from three-point range and four for five from inside the arc. He also grabbed 12 rebounds. Four other Flames hit for double figures: J.T. Jones had 18 points, Lim Chol and Jeffery Carter added 14, and Garrett Saunders powered inside for 10. The Flames host Bryan College JV Monday night at 8:00pm.
