GARI AND BEANS These food has been labelled as the “Poor man - TopicsExpress

GARI AND BEANS These food has been labelled as the “Poor man food” because it sells cheap. In fact most Ghanaians only eat it when they are broke, but what they do not know is that, you can get almost all the six food groups in just one dish of gari and beans and it’s one of the most balanced diet food you can out there. To continue, let me first explain what these food contain. One dish of gari and beans otherwise known as “Red Red” in some regions and “Gobe” in other parts contains, Beans, Gari, palm oil and ripe plain. Beans alone contains protein, fiber, Carbohydrates (about 25 grams per serving), vitamins (thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6), cyanocobalamin (B12), folic acid and biotin), minerals, lipids, Calories (healthy). This is just what beans alone contains, now let’s take a look at the Gari. Gari contains dietary fiber, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Sugars, Sodium, Carbohydrates. The palm fruit where the oil is even derived from, is sometimes even referred to as, “nature’s gift to the world”. It is the only fruit that can produce two different types of oil (the palm oil and the palm kernel oil), it doesn’t contain fatty acids and contains Vitamin E and many healthy calories the body needs. If I should delve into the composition of the ripe plantain, I may never complete this article, but I believe you all know what it contains. So with this little information, ask yourself, is this a food you should joke with? Just one dish and you’ve replenished yourself with almost all the nutrients the body will need to function. I’ve seen people eat it with eggs, my advice is, if you know you’ve been doing that, please stop, you can cause confusion in your house. You can do that if you have a “gas” war with your neighbours but apart from that, don’t combine this two things because that will be accumulating excess protein. If after eating such combination you experience a bloated stomach, it means you’ve accrued excess protein. The beans in itself is full of protein, so there’s no need to add an egg to it. Enjoy a bowl of “Gobe-lisis” and rejuvenate for the day, it’s the most nutrient expensive you can find, give it value.
